Pilot Knob Cuvee May Texas Wine of the Month 2

Moving into Spring we find ourselves enjoying the outdoors on a weekly if not daily basis. Weddings, BBQs and backyard evenings in increasing Texas temps and humidity calls for wines that are light and floral, what we like to refer to as “perfect patio sippers.”  For this very reason Texas Wine and Trail chose the Pilot Knob Vineyard PK Cuvée 2014 for our May Texas Wine of the Month.

TW&T-32-JMHTasting Notes

by TW&T Owner, Marcus Holley

“The Pilot Knob PK Cuvée 2014 has everything you want in a white. It’s off-dry up front which will appeal to both dry wine lovers and those enthusiasts moving from sweet to dry. I’m not detecting much of the muscat blanc but I’ll contribute the faint up front fruitiness to it. There is an incredible harmony between the viognier and chenin blanc – they’re playing off each other, with the chenin blanc’s minerality subduing the viognier’s need for attention. It presents beautifully with a bright aromatic nose of honeysuckle and stone fruits. The flavor profile has an off-dry entrance and great minerality throughout, a soft mid palate with delicate notes of honeydew melon and citrus, and well balanced acidity with a clean, dry finish. It’s a very inviting wine that was well put together. I personally like a bit more acid, but I think that would’ve moved this into a serious food-wine category. It has that potential. This is a perfect patio sipper. I could see people getting in trouble with this one. And I was pleasantly surprised to discover its $21.00 and available online.”

Recommendations?

“Absolutely, I will recommend this wine to anyone. It’s a great outdoor white and will pair well with a variety of light Spring fair. I really think the PK Cuvée shines because of its elegance vs. its price point, and should definitely be considered by those seeking to stimulate their guests this Spring with a quality wine produced in Texas.”
